1. When did you start CrossFit?
I began Crossfit back in 2013. After I finished collegiate athletics, I still had the urge to compete in something. After watching the Crossfit Games on my phone for the first time in 2013 and watching Rich Froning dominate, I realized that this is what I wanted to pursue. While I am no where close to the elite level that Rich is at, I enjoy using my athletic ability in the gym to continue to better myself and reach goals I never thought were possible.
2. What was your first WOD at Redbird or your favorite WOD?
I do not remember my first workout in particular at Redbird, but I enjoy workouts with heavy barbells and high skilled gymnastics, such as muscle-ups or handstand push-ups.
3. What do you do for a living?
I am full-time firefighter for the city of Jacksonville! Best job in the world. I also enjoy coaching classes at Redbird a few hours a week.
4. What are your favorite CrossFit movements and why?
My favorite movement in Crossfit is the snatch, I love going heavy on the snatch. It is such a technical lift, and even a 5lb PR over the course of the year is music to my ears! I also enjoy just about any gymnastics movement, bar muscle-ups and handstand push-ups in particular.
5. What is your biggest accomplishment at the gym since joining RedBird?
My biggest accomplishment, besides little PR's here and there, would be the fitness competition, Wodapalooza, that I qualified for this upcoming February. Essentially, it is ran just like the Crossfit Open. There were 6 workouts announced over a 3 week span. The workouts had to be performed, video-taped, and submitted by a deadline. After the deadline, invites were sent out. The top 30 athletes qualified in the 'elite' division, athletes 31-60 qualified in the 'RX' division, and athletes 61-90 qualified intermediate. After 3 weeks and thousands of athletes score submissions, I was able to qualify under the RX division. So in February, I will be competing with some of the fittest individuals in the world!
6. What’s something we don’t know about you?
Although I work as a career firefighter, I still hold my Bachelors in Nursing. I consume way too much caffeine in a given day, have never followed a diet plan, and am pretty good at drinking beer.
