Why you should do the open?

You should sign up for the CrossFit Open: Here’s why:

It’s that time of year again, actually it’s not but the 2020 season is unique that the CrossFit open begins on October 10th 2019 and runs to November 8th.

If you don’t know already, the Open is a five-week-long online WOD competition that is open to every CrossFitter from every box around the globe. Age or skill level is not a barrier to joining the fun and neither is experience—scaled WODs are offered with exact modifications for each weight level and skill movement.  

The Open is not just about WODs, or RX-ing workouts, or pushing yourself to hit PRs. Like CrossFit itself, the heart of the event centers on building a healthy, supportive community through friendly competition.

As CrossFit goes back to its roots and focuses on health and fitness, the whole point of the Open at Redbird CrossFit and other CrossFit boxes everywhere around the world is to ask their members to throw down in a common workout and then, at the end, to celebrate everyone’s individual successes. The Open is just a large-scale version of that weekly exercise in community-based exercise. The open is where some of our members got their first pull up, their first double under, their first Rx workout, and even their first Handstand push up and Ring Muscle Up.

But there are other important reasons to sign-up for the Open:

1. Judge your progress
Maybe you started working on your TTB, Chest to Bar/Pull Ups or Strict Handstand Pushups and you want to actually put all that hard work and extra time spent to judge your progress. See how far you have come along. You will surprise yourself!

2. Be Part of the Community
Hundreds of thousands of people sign-up for the event each year, and the Open website allows you to see where you rank according to age and location. Don’t get nervous or shy about that part. The only people who should feel bummed about where they rank at the end of the competition should be those that didn’t choose to participate but secretly wanted to. If you are a teacher, the open even allows you to judge your fitness among other teachers. You can sort your results by #30yearoldteacherinIL and see where you stand. You might be surprised to learn where you stand.  

3. Because you can do it.
The Open is tailored to all athletes, advanced, beginners, teens, scaled, masters. Just talk to Paul Miller who has done every open with the specified Masters scaling and excelled at each workout.
